Some great news for Parsons Dance fans! We have selected Rena Butler as the recipient of our 2022/2023 GenerationNOW Fellowship, a program we launched in 2015 to provide emerging choreographers with mentoring, financial support, and the opportunity to have their work performed by our skilled dancers. On July 11, Rena and the company began a three-week residency devoted to learning her new piece that will make its world premiere during our 2023 Joyce season. Rena describes the piece as "a series of intimate urgencies that catapult a collective exploration into how one assembles their sense of portraiture through a surrealistic landscape." Appropriately so, she has set the piece to a wonderfully harrowing percussive score by Bronx-born, Chicago-based composer Darryl J. Hoffman, whose soundscape propels the dancers through writhing movement. Stay tuned for more news about this provocative work!
