Although Dancers Responding to Aids was unable to host its annual Fire Island Dance Festival this season because of Covid-19 restrictions, we were fortunate to be invited to perform at The Pines on Fire Island for so many of the organization’s amazing friends. The company’s appearances throughout the weekend from July 16 to July 19 took place at The Pines' Whyte Hall and on the harbor's ferry dock. The company performed a variety of repertory, including previews of two new works—David Parsons’ The Road, and Chanel DaSilva’s On The Other Side, along with David's class work Destined, shared with audiences for the first time since 1993. Our devotion to DRA goes back many years and is especially meaningful because Denise Hurlin was a Parsons dancer for three years beginning in 1987 before founding DRA in 1991. Thanks, Denise, for including us in this fabulous event!
